Shorter Daily Eating Window May Support Cognitive Function in Aging

The study employed a six-month intervention involving older female participants divided into two groups based on daily eating window duration. One group restricted consumption to approximately 8–9 hours, while the other consumed food over a span exceeding 12 hours. Both cohorts maintained comparable caloric reduction levels throughout the trial period.
Participants completed standardized assessments measuring executive function and cognitive flexibility. Those adhering to the shorter eating window demonstrated superior performance on planning tasks and problem-solving challenges compared to the extended-dietary group. These results suggest that temporal patterns of food intake may independently affect cognitive outcomes in aging women.
The authors note that weight loss was similar across both groups, indicating that caloric restriction timing rather than total energy deficit drove the observed differences. However, the sample size remains limited and the study population consists exclusively of older women. Further research is needed to determine whether these findings apply to broader age ranges or male populations.
